Stuff you need to do....

Overview
You need to register a domain, purchase an SSL certificate, and pay for a website hosting plan. We recommend that you register the domain and choose a low-cost hosting plan through GoDaddy.com. They’re affordable and their service is impeccable. Although, they make choosing a plan very confusing. We can help you pick the right hosting plan. You should register the domain so that you have sole ownership of your web address. If we bought your domain and hosting plan, then we would own it. This would be bad.

Responsibilities

Photos

You need to provide us with images for your website. If you don’t already have them, you will either need to take pictures yourself or hire a photographer. This is part of your website design that we can’t do for you. No one at The Quick Brown Fox is a very good photographer. And we don’t use images from the Internet without expressed consent from their owners. Most websites need pictures for the home page, about us page, and for products and services.

You need to re-size and upload images for your website’s shopping cart.
Kevin Teague will write copy for your home page, about page, and one or two other pages. But you need to enter descriptions and specifications for all of your products.

After The Quick Brown Fox finishes building your website, it’s up to you to maintain it. Don’t worry, we’ll show you how.

Printing Photos
The Quick Brown Fox emails you the high resolution graphics for your non-web marketing materials. It’s up to you to print them.

Domain
This is your website address. It’s sort of like a number on a cell phone. No two domains are alike and they help people find you. Make sure that you register a domain name that is relevant to your business. These almost always come with custom email addresses.

$7 per year (average cost)

Hosting Plan
This is the size and bandwidth you need to operate your website. Basically, you are paying someone to keep your website on their really big computer. Using the previous cell phone analogy, it would be like the calling plan for your phone. Nowadays, the cheapest GoDaddy hosting plan (not the free one that puts ads on your website) would suffice for your website.

$45 per year (average cost)

SSL –(Secure Sockets Layer)
If you plan on processing credit cards, this is a security certificate that creates a secure link between your website and your customer’s browser. All websites nowadays that process credit cards have one. They change the “http” in your web address to “https” once customers get to your payment page.

$20 per year (cost on GoDaddy)

Merchant Account
When your site is finished, you will need to apply for a merchant account. Merchant accounts are sort of like bank accounts, but they allow you to process credit cards through your website. We will be happy to recommend different companies that offer merchant accounts. Basically, you will be assessed for risk. If you qualify, you will be able to charge credit cards through your website. The Quick Brown Fox recommends that you shop around. The rates can greatly differ. And if you have any questions about what merchant account an Independent Sales Organization (ISO) is selling you, we would be glad to help. The credit card industry is nebulous and it’s very easy to be taken advantage of.
